Starting touching up the paint work on the inside of the Mai-Star II

Rubbing down loose paint work on bulkheads and touching up the bare wood areas after masking up edges.

A whole lot more on the side of the hull and under the foredeck on the starboard side

most of the touching up was on the new ribs on the port side.

After these areas were dry I was able to get a second coat of varnish on the cabin sides. Also fitted was the end blocks for the bunk backrests, once the painting is completed then the blocks and the backrests will be varnished like the cabin sides.

Work on Mai-Star II interior getting underway.

Starting to clean the paintwork down with washing liquid and then a bit of beach to get rid of the dirt. 

A lot cleaner and time to let it dry out before sanding down the hull and deck head before repainting and in places touch up bare wood.

The first coat of varnish on the cabin sides just a few more to go, actually a lot more to come about 12 more at least.

A good day's work and more tomorrow

Today we got a number of the smaller jobs out of the way, jobs such as making and painting the small floorboards ahead of the sea toilet which had not been done during the last refit and painting the chain locker lid and cutting the hole for the chain to run through when hauling and lowering the chain when anchoring. Also done was the edge of the cabin roof and screwing down the joint between the two sheets of marine plywood which makes up the outer layer of the cabin side.

The cockpit inside of the hull as now got its first coat of primer and is looking a whole lot better than before, just a few more coats of primer before starting to paint the undercoat and white gloss of the inside of the hull of the cockpit.

Another job that was done was to make up the cleats to fix the ends of the cabin bunk backrests in position.

The next job in the inside of the yacht is to fix the cleats for the backrest in position  and paint the floorboards in the front of the yacht as well as the chain locker lid and then get on with the nailing up of the ribs that are already in position and get on with the jobs under the bunks and make the new floorboards in the area under the bunk tops.

final piece of the cabin roof go on and now water tight

The last piece of T&G fitted to the new cabin roof just a quick sanding before the upper marine plywood covering panel put in place

The final marine plywood panel screwed down in place just a bit of filling to be done on the screw holes and putting a radius around the top edge of the cabin roof to ensure the matting go over the edges fair and true and stick down without any air pockets in the material.

The hull of Mai-Star II is started to be re-painted

The hull is started to be repainted just a few coats of paint, actually a lot of coats

Half way down the first side just another few feet to go.
first side done just the transom and then on to the another side
doing the same as the other side starting at the bow and working our way to the stern.
First coat done, just another 5 coats of primer to go before the under coat can start to be done.

An odd job or two on a client's boat and a chance to get out on the river.

The new chain locker lid made up and ready to have its final fit in the boat

Chain locker lid now in position just needs a bit of final trimming and then painting and it will be set to go.

After months of not being able to get out on the water, got the chance for a short trip on the local river. 

Just got to get Mai-Star II finished off and she can be doing this as well.

Putting the bunk backrests in place

Put the bunk backrests in place to help break up the white hull sides a bit

Just got to put blocks at the front and aft ends to fix the ends in place.

Just got to cut out circles where the beaching legs bolts come through the hull on both sides

Having mark round the piece of larch final trimming up on the bandsaw 

Planning down to the near to the lines ready to take to the boat

Just a matter of trimming with a plane and easing it into place and then cutting the scarph on the trailing edge and then gluing and screwing and nailing in place.

All finished and primed ready to be caulked up and sealed with linseed putty.

Re-fixing the port side, so that the bow repairs are now finished off.

Check your standing & running rigging before the start of the season better to be sailing than sitting on the hard all season waiting for a new rig

Do not forget your tender & outboard they need TLC as well if they are to give you good service during the season. So take your outboard to the service agent to get it checked over and give yourself peace of mind

If you have a wooden boat start rubbing down the paint work where it is damaged & put primer on the bare wood

 Get your ropes & ground Tackle check over to make sure their ready for the new Season & get rid of any damage rope. You do not want to end up on the local RNLI list.
